Apparently I Left My MIND in San Francisco

It's official; I'm insane.

Let me explain. Yesterday I had quite a shitty day. I won't go into specifics, but it culminated in me going out and getting very drunk to take my mind off things. It worked, because I don't remember much after that.

This morning I woke up and turned on the laptop to check my emails and social networking sites, sheepishly wondering if I had sent any embarrassing emails/Facebook booty calls (you know how it is.)

I opened my Hotmail account and nearly fainted. I had an email confirming my flight details.

Hang on a minute. What?!

Nah, I thought, It must be the hangover. I obviously can't see straight. So I squinted at the screen and read on. My jaw practically hit the floor.

Apparently, in my drunken stupor, and thinking 'I need to get out of here'...I'd booked a trip to SAN FRANCISCO.

That's kind of a big deal, considering I live in the UK.

In case this was some kind of weird spam or sick joke, I checked my account on lastminute.com and I had indeed booked a flight – and hotel – to SF.

For five days.

Who goes that far for FIVE DAYS? Honestly. It takes like 14 hours to get there! And not only that (yes, it gets better) - it's booked for March 5th. That's just TWO WEEKS AWAY.

W-T-F???

I constantly amaze myself. I have done a lot of crazy things while under the influence, but I've really excelled myself this time.

Once I got over the initial shock, I continued checking my other sites. On Facebook I'd written: Somebody poke me! And my last update on Twitter said: I wanna dance. And book a flight to the USA.

I collapsed with laughter.

I'm impressed with the price though. As smashed as I was, I still managed to get quite a good deal. Even if I did just whack it on my credit card.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go. I love an adventure and it seems like it's meant to happen. Plus it's non-refundable, which kind of makes up my mind for me. And I don't mind going on my own. I've travelled alone before.

Does anyone here live in San Fran? Or know of any good places to visit? Because I have no idea what to do there.

I have American friends, but they live in Michigan and Indiana. I'm not sure I could tempt them down to SF at such short notice, seeing as it's the other side of the country. I can't even use the old, “I haven't seen you for EVER” line, because they came to London at Christmas. Dammit.

Oh well. Cali, here I come...

...apparently...

Damn it, why couldn't you have booked that to DC!

OMG! That is absolutely hilarious! I've done some crazy things when drunk, but never booked a flight!

I also love traveling alone.

Get excited about the trip!

That might qualify for the best drunken story I've ever heard. Never been to S.F., but I wish I had gotten drunk last night and booked a flight to go with you :)

So here you go...I've been dying to go to San Fran, just haven't had a chance to make it there.

Here are the things that I want to see:

Fisherman's Whaft, Pier 39, and Ghiradelli Square - all along the waterfront.

Gold Gate Bridge - of course!

Alcatraz - former prison, but it's supposedly a popular sight.

Chinatown - Who doesn't love Chinatown?

Must ride a cable car - that just sounds awesome

Union Square - just sounds like an awesome park

Alright that's all I can think of! You're so lucky....ugh, I'm green with envy! Have fun and take loads of pics.

LOL YOURE SOOOO AWESOME. Post it on 20sb, I guess a lot of bloggers live around there

That is quite funny!!

You will have a good time exploring somewhere new. I'm jealous.

Joanie said...

Nic, that's really funny but at least you found (booked) a good price! Make sure you check all your credit/debit cards statement just to make sure you didn't book/buy anything else under the influence ;-D

Ahahaha you are a hoot, Nic!

You're going to love San Fran! It's amazingly beautiful!

Nicole Elkington said...

I LOVE San Francisco!! You'll love it! The Piers are amazing.. the trolleys exhilarating.. the beach.. cold but fun. China town is like it's own world. You should visit Grace Cathedral, it's modeled after Notre Dame, and across the street from it is a funky, yet crazy Mason Temple! Awe, I wanna go now.

hahahahahaha. It's like your multiple personality took over while you were unconscious and did all this shit for you. I don't know if I would every be THAT drunk. Good luck in SF! I wish I could help you on your trip, but I live in New Orleans and have never been to SF. If you ever made a drunk flight to come here though, I'm your girl!

OMG! Most HIllarious thing EVER!!!!!! Unfortunately, i don't live in San Francisco otherwise I'd say - it's on, girl! when are you going??

TOO TOO FUNNY!!!!

*Nic* said...

PQ - Haha. I've actually been to DC before. I think I must've booked SF because I've always wanted to visit Cali.

Erin - I am excited! At first I was in shock, but now I'm looking forward to it :)

Rose - Lol. So I win the Best Drunken Story Award. I wish you'd booked a flight too, that'd be COOL!

Miss A - Brilliant! Thanks for all the suggestions. The prison, especially, sounds interesting. And I will take loads of pics and post them on here.

Lolita - That's a great idea. Done it!

Leetid - I hope so. I love exploring. It must have something to do with all the Famous Five books I read as a kid!

Joanie - That is a very sensible idea! Maybe I should also hide all my credit cards next time I drink!

Bella - Lol, thanks! I'm pretty sure I'll like it. I've loved everywhere I've visited in the USA.

Nicole - Cool! Thanks for the suggestions :)

Gwen - I think you could be right. I do have a naughty alter ago, haha. And I'll hold you to that if I'm ever in New Orleans!

Scarlett - Glad you found it amusing! I'm going at the start of March.

I know what happened. You drunk came over to my blog and thought, "Well she is delightful! I must visit her in San Francisco straight away!"

Anyway, San Francisco's fantastic. Ya gonna love it.

good for you! i wish i was that spontaneous :)

Ooh. I'm jealous, but that has got to be one of the best drunk stories I've heard. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I want to go, but the only place I know I definitely want to go is to Alcatraz.

Take loads of pictures!

delizcious said...

That beats any drunken thing I have ever done!

Karen said...

Not only is this story so funny it actually made me cry, but I think it's sort of inspirational. I think it's rad that you're going anyway!

I wish I had that kind of space on my credit card/understanding of a boss!

Ms. Salti said...

I am laughing my ass off right now. If you had booked it for the end of May I could meet you down there, because that's when I'm going. I'm in Utah, so that's not too far away from San Fran, if you want to stop by and say hello! Ha ha ha. If you can change the dates for May, you can join my group of frineds on our girls trip.... just a thought! In any case, good luck. And if you go, I can't wait to hear all about it!

There's a great Italian restaurant in the North Beach area of town called The Steps of Rome, and it's delicious. Other than that, just shop, shop, shop and sightsee!

Ms. Salti said...

And I also have to agree with Rose and Jill - best drunk story, ever!

Jacklyn said...

that is soo awesome! i wish i was funnier or did silly things when i was drunk. last weekend i did twitter : "Being wine makes it hard to read online text." which i remember writing and I remember that the screen kinda moved a little lol I believe I was too confused as to whether to put wine drunk or wine tipsy and then just kept writing haha

*Nic* said...

Tish - That's EXACTLY what happened. I wanted to be your next stalker, lol. BTW, what's the weather like there? I don't know what to pack!

Jessie - There's spontaneous...then there's just plain ridiculous!

Prohibited - Thanks, will do!

Delizcious - I've done some pretty silly drunken things, but this one is in a class of its own!

Karen - Wow. I'm inspirational. Lol.

Ms Salti - It'd be so cool if we were both there at the same time! Oh and thanks for the restaurant recommendation!

Jacklyn - Haha! That's pretty funny :)

Well next time you want to randomly travel somewhere, just pick up a bottle and wait for the results in the morning!

ChinkyGirLMeL said...

OMG! This is funny. I can't believe you did that. I used to live in the bay area and would go down to san francisco almost every weekend. The List the Miss A gave you hits it right on the spot. Those places are definitely a must to visit. If you're in the mood for some Asian Cuisine you should go down to Chinatown. The Winding Road is pretty cool too. Have fun dear! =)

Extremely Witty said...

This. was. fantastic.

I've done some stupid things while drunk, but never flight-booking. Bravo!

Cheryl said...

You are priceless.

You're going to love San Francisco! It's beeautiful

Gina said...

That is so awesome. Of all places to book a flight to, it can't get better than Cali.

Ok...I've never been to California. But if I booked a drunken (or sober) flight to anywhere, San Fran would be where I'd go.

You have got to go. Enjoy it.

Mandy said...

Oh my gosh, you are insane!! Hahaha, I cannot believe you did that.

Well, I live in L.A and haven't been to San Fran for 10 years, so if I'm not working then.... maybe I could drive there and hang out with you for a few days?

But you should come to L.A for a few days. Have you been to Disneyland??? Haha.

pinkjellybaby said...

No way! That's hilarious. I think the worst thing i've done when drunk is maybe dropping chips on the carpet. Yeah, i'm roack and roll!

jb said...

Nic....drinking and computers make for a good mix. Back in the day, it was telephones, the ones you had to dail lolol.... now it's texting/facebook/hotmail/cellphones/blackberry's.. you name it... you also....stalk/book/booty call yourself/drunk call the ex's or anyone as a matter of fact God I love the internet and booze.

But you still managed to get a good deal...good girl Nic!!! Last time I drunk called my ex I guess I dailed some guys number at least 12 times the next day I had a voice mail that said ...please don't ever call my house at 3 am ever again I'mmmmm notttt your girlfriend stupid biatch...made me lolol still makes me laugh.

Great story have fun in San Fran.

DWP - Haha yeah, but that could be an expensive way of having fun.

Mel - Cool! Thanks for the tips :)

Witty - Lol thanks!

Cheryl - I'm glad you like San Fran. Everyone is telling me it's amazing, which is good as it means I didn't pick a crappy/boring place to visit!

Gina - I will enjoy it, and I'll take lotsa pics to show ya. Hope you get there one day too :)

Mandy - I'll be in LA for like an hour on the 5th because it's an indirect flight with a stop-off at LAX - which is a bit random but probably why the flight was cheap! But you should definitely come to SF, we could hang out!

PinkJellyBaby - Yeah but that could be bad, if they had sauce on them or something :P

JB - Lol, LOVE your story! Phones and computers are just the WORST when you're drunk. I think they should automatically lock or something when they sense you typing shit, haha.

Girl On A Journey said...

Talk about Spontaneous!!!

I wish I could join you but I live in the Caribbean so if you ever book a flight in this region while in a druken stupor let me know, its a small place I just might be able to join you.

Cee said...

I mentioned on your 20sb thread about Muir Woods - I forgot to mention that if you go there, take your camera. There are awesome trees that are several hundred years old, and if you're lucky you might see a banana slug!

Five days is a long time, but if you're going to travel 28 hours round trip, you might as well stay there awhile and take it all in :o)

It's also fun to drive down Lombard Street. It's crazy-curvy!! There are really cute houses along that street.

Architecture in general is pretty amazing in SF. My sister's apartment is cute and was built in 1921!

Safe travels!

sabrina said...

Well at least you booked a flight to one of the most beautiful places in the country:)

Soul Mates 95 said...

oh that is hilarious...and yeah kind of freaky! I use ambien for insomnia and let me tell ya the things you can do on that and totally have NO memory of are insane. I have woken up with no clothes on and had to have my husband explain to me how that happpened. SERIOUSLY.

Journey - I'll remember that!

Cee - Thanks for all the suggestions :)

Sabrina - Thank God I didn't choose somewhere shitty!

Melody - Thanks!

Soul Mates - Lol! That's funny :)

Debi - Nope! Purely because I got drunk, lol. I'm looking forward to San Fran now!
