NOT TO BE OPENED UNTIL 9 JUNE 2013
Dear Nic,
First of all, happy birthday! If you're reading this then you've actually made it to the big 3-0, so congrats! I know that's the age that always scared you. So, what does it feel like now it's finally arrived, old lady?
By the way, I'm addressing this to you at 30 because I can't imagine any farther into the future than that. Since you're older and wiser than me, you'll have to write to our 40-year-old self when you're done reading and reflecting on/laughing at this letter. I wonder what she'll be like?
Hey, how's the blog going? Did you keep it running for the past five years? Remember when you started it back in 2008? That must seem like so long ago now. Maybe blogs are obsolete and have been replaced by some crazy new invention. But if it's still going then I hope you have, like, a million followers.
I'm starting to feel like Marty McFly in Back to the Future! This is heavy.
I hope you finally got a job you actually enjoy. If not, you know that letter you're about to write to 40-year-old Nic? Offload the responsibility onto her! You always were the flighty type and I don't think you will have settled down in just five years. But fifteen, just maybe.
Speaking of settling down, I wonder if you've found Mr Right yet. As much as I hope you have, I'm going to guess no. You really knew how to pick 'em, chick. I won't mention any names; they're not worth wasting our reminiscing time on! And I'm sure there will have been a few more by the time you read this.
I don't even need to ask the next question, because there is NO WAY you have kids. If I find out you have, I will eat my own head. What were you thinking?!
I have no idea where to send this letter, so I'll just throw it out here in the blogosphere and hope it reaches you when the time comes. Where are you living now? Are you still in the same town you grew up in? Did you move away? Ooh...I hope you went to live in the States, I know how you always wanted to.
Wherever you are, I hope that as you wave goodbye to your twenties, you're happy and healthy and have crossed a few more things off your bucket list. I bet you've also visited a few more countries...possibly Australia?
Remember how you couldn't live without your GHD hair straighteners, Gucci handbag and a fabulous pink lipgloss? I'm willing to bet my right arm that hasn't changed!
In fact, I hope you haven't changed much at all. I hope you still laugh all the time and haven't let life get on top of you. Never forget that life is too short for regrets and everything happens for a reason. You did a pretty good job of remembering that when you were 25, so I hope you haven't lost sight of what's important.
I can't wait to hear how it all panned out for you. See you in the future! (Make me proud!)
Lots of love,
A younger-than-you Nic
xxx
PS. If you could tell me whatever happened to my favourite pair of Seven jeans, that'd be great. I can't find them anywhere.
And also, the winning lottery numbers for the week after I wrote this.

20 voices in my head:
What a fun idea! I'm totally stealing your idea... but I promise I won't post until after I get back from spring break!
I love this. Good job!
What an awesome letter! It's a way cooler version of the question "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?". Way cooler. So uh, can I uh, you know, "borrow" it? ;)
Nicole - Thanks!
BB & Shannon - Of course you can both do it! I look forward to reading what you come up with :)
Suchhh a fun idea, i wonder how I would be in my thirties. I don't want it to come anytime soon though.
haha... excellent.. love it.. may i 'borrow it' hehe... hmm i wonder what i would write..
ooo great letter. I wonder what my 30 year old self will be like...hmmmm...
Nic or sorry future Nic.....HBD...or not. This is brilliant. I love it. I'm pretty sure your going to be where you want to be at 30 or 40, what the hell...Nic live your life with all the force you have. Never look back just forward.
Look, Gucci, LV, Juicy Tubes, Prada, nothing wrong with that. This better not change at all. A girl needs to look good outside and in.....Rock On.....Nic.
Love Ya
JB
This is very cute!! I don't even want to think about my 30's yet...I just turned 26, so I'm not far off. I'm still dreading the big 30 though.
Lolita - Me neither!
CattPrez - Of course, do it!
Mel - Hopefully she'll be as fabulous as you are now!
JB - Thanks! Loved that comment :)
Miss A - I am SO dreading it too!
I think you'll be pregnant when you're 30. Yep, I'm sure you'll have a bun in the oven. Pregnant women are actually pretty sexy.
I'm starting to feel like Marty McFly in Back to the Future! This is heavy.
hahaha that funny. LOVE that move.
Does everyone out side of "The States" want to move here? I don't see whats so great about it. If I had the money I would so be living anywhere else right now. Australia seems nice. ;)
whaooo what an idea and i loved it!
i dunno if i could adopt it, but truly original!
Hahahaha awesome.
Kids... My future self had better not have any of those either.
What a cute idea! I love your mention of finding Mr. Right. I also hope you've found him by then. Maybe you'll find him here in the States?! If you do move to this side of the pond, you better come to see me!
Another KREATIV BLOGGER award for you!
Gorilla - Um...thanks?
Gwen B - Yes. Everyone wants to move there.
Desi - Have a go, try it!
Cheryl - I completely understand!
Dani - Cheers for the award!
Ms Salti - Will do :)
I wrote myself a letter when I was about 15, not to any specific age of me but for when I needed it. I've been thinking for a while that I should do another one (but, like last time, I'll probably do it on paper)
This is fabulous!
I've been contemplating putting up my "30 things to do before 30" list up on my blog. I guess I'll have to do it now.
I know that you will continue to rock---even at the Scary Age of 30.
I used to do these to myself. I would write one for each so-called pivotal year, but never managed to abide by my DO NOT OPEN UNTIL guidelines. Plus I was way off; I expected myself to have my own house and amazing career by age 20 but I'm still waiting....
