In Your Dreams!

I love sleeping. More to the point, I love dreaming. I always remember my dreams. And I enjoy hearing about other people's dreams; they're an endless source of entertainment for me. Especially if you start with, “I had a dream last night and you were in it.” That really grabs my attention. What? I'm just fascinated by dreams!

Most of my dreams are sexual, which, now I think of it, is probably why I enjoy dreaming so much. They usually involve celebrities, guy friends or ex-boyfriends, although sometimes they're about a 'dream man' (quite literally) and when I wake up I'm disappointed that he's not real.

Sometimes I have normal dreams about what happened that day or something I've been thinking about. Occasionally I have a nice dream in which I achieve something important to me. But I rarely have nightmares. I used to when I was a kid - after watching Roald Dahl's The Witches I was scared to fall asleep for weeks. They were trying to kill all children! And every time I closed my eyes I saw those freaky toeless feet. I don't have nightmares so much anymore - but a few years ago I did dream that I got shot. That was pretty weird. I was looking at the holes and wondering why they weren't bleeding or even hurting.

I've never had a recurring dream. Or a dream where you wake up in the middle of it and then when you go back to sleep it just carries on. Occasionally when I'm dreaming about a place I'll think “I've been here before”, then I'll wake up and realise it's not a real place. So maybe I've had a different dream set in the same place before? Who knows.

Also, a few times a dream has got so ridiculous I've actually thought to myself, “This must be a dream!” That usually happens when I'm dreaming about rushing to get somewhere and no matter how hard I try, it's just not happening. And everyone is talking stupid. And whenever I run, it's always in slow motion.

I once bought a dream dictionary to try and analyse my dreams. But the one I bought was more like a fortune-telling book and I was disappointed. It said stuff like, “If you dream about a carpet, you are about to come into a lot of money” and “If you dream about pigs you will get swine flu”. Ok, so I made the second one up - but you get the point. I would guess that if you dream about having sex it just means you're a horny fucker. But I want a real psychology-type book that tells you your deepest thoughts, fears and desires according to what you dream.

Do you remember your dreams? What do you dream about? Any really weird dreams you want to share with us?!

Great topic! I remember just about all of my dreams. I've had recurring dreams and I'd say 20% of my dreams are nightmares. I had a recurring dream that linked me to my deceased grandfather whom I never got to meet. The dream was me going to visit him at the hospital when he was sick. I explained the dream to my mom down to the last detail, and every last thing was correct. I'm talking about things like where the wheelchairs were stored, what the entrance looked like, how the room was arranged, etc. Everything was exact. I was less than 10 years old. I would LOVE to know more about dreams and where they come from.

Ps- I can usually tell if I'm dreaming as well. It's crazy because while you're dreaming, you're thinking about how crazy this dream you're having is haha

I have a recurring dream about my high school boyfriend. It's actually a nice sweet dream, not sexual, and I wake up all happy from it. I haven't seen the bloke in 18 years but that dream still reminds me of how lovely he was

I love dreams too, and I also love hearing about peoples dreams.

I had a dream a few months ago that I was driving with my brothers in the car and somehow we got off the road, but I just kept going at the same speed and dodging trees and it was perfectly normal to everyone, none of us freaked out at all.

But more recently I had a dream that my neighbour was in my flat measuring everything so she would know how much space she'd have when the wall came down and she got the double flat. Again, this seemed normal to me, although nothing of the sort is happening any time soon (and I hope not ever)

I have night terrors every so often where i dream something is happening to me/or my boyfriend. Last nights was that i though he was sleeping on the kitten and i started scrabbling around in the bed for her. He obviously wasnt, i woke up with the boy and two cats staring at me wondering what the hell was going on!

I had a dream the other night that my friend and I got into a huge row over a package of tortillas!

Oddly I haven't been remembering my dreams. Although my boyfriend had a dream a few weeks ago and he was fighting off someone in his dream and he actually punched me in the middle of the night...and it hurt!

I had the craziest dream last night actually. There was a murderer guy after me and David Hasselhoff was my neighbour. Okay.

I very seldom remember my dreams, though I used to when I was younger. When I do remember them, they're often long & narrative, with 'history' and a strong sense of place despite being set in fictional places. Strange how the brain works!!

I dreamt the other night Jim Halpert from the Office and I were prostitutes. We were just hanging out in our brothel together, chatting.

Which is weird, cause I totally would try to bone him in real life.

I remember most of my dreams. Lately they have been very sexual. I keep dreaming about sleeping with men at my parent's house and my parents walking in to find us.

When I was younger I would have this recurring dream that I would be naked in the back set of a car and the car was driving itself. I analyzed that one to mean that I felt like things were not in my control. That no matter how hard I tried to get it right, there was something off. In my dream I would be struggling - why I forgot to put clothes on and it would make me uncomfortable. Also trying to get the car to stop.

I think that some dream are symbolic to our lives, but they play out differently. I think that you have to step back from your dream to understand it. I don't think that a book can tell you what your dream means, but that you have to look deep within yourself to figure them out.

Yes I remember all my dreams. I have good dreams, bad ones, ones the refuse to go away and some very yummy racy ones.
I've written down one of my dreams as a blog post...check it out!

The Witches totally gave me nightmares, too. I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one! I had a very vivid dream last night about being incessantly praised by my coworkers. This is possibly the most boring and embarrassing dream content available.

The Witches is freaky - I'm totally with you! I used to have a recurring dream about roller skating through a tunnel...no idea what that meant, but I dreamed it every night when I was younger. I can almost always "restart" my dreams if I wake up.
I rarely have nightmares, but when I'm stressed out during the day they happen...one week last month I had really *horrible* nightmares every night. It was exhausting!
I'd love to know what my dreams mean too, although mine are usually so humdrum it's not hard to tell.

Dreams are BIZARRE. I barely remember mine, but when I do, I generally say something along the lines of "WTF?"

i have one recurring dream about two times every month. it's so weird, i fall asleep in my bedroom, and in my dream i wake up in my room, pack some stuff, and move it back to my old room in my old house. then i make a trip back to my current house to stay the night, and move more stuff in the morning.

it's confusing because when i actually wake up, i look around my room and think "hey, i just packed that, why is it out?" and then i realize that i'm not really moving back, it was just a dream :)

I usually forget my dreams. If I remember it I'd remember for the first 3 min of waking up and then I forget. I guess I'm just a very forgetful person!

I have recurring dreams, often sexual in nature, that are just ... strange.

But then, all of my dreams are kind of strange. Like, last night I dreamed I was at a huge state police building (that somehow looked more like the place where my daughter's gymnastics class is held) where they were having a carnival. My daughter had a ticket to go on the log flume, but other kids kept coming in without tickets and getting on ahead of her. The funny thing is, my daughter is not the kind of kid that would take that ... she'd be one of the people pushing ahead.

Dreams=strange stuff : )

I have this reoccuring dream where all my teeth fall out, or I fall into a huge bottomless pit, and the second before I hit the bottom, I wake up. What does it mean?

Ella said...

A few times I had dreams where I was also dreaming. So practically I woke up twice! Just when I thought I'm in the real world, i'd wake up again. That's just so weird. =)

I rarely remember my dreams. The ones I do remember tend to be sex dreams. I had one about one of my guy-friends recently. It was a couple of days before I could look him in the eye again! I swore he knew somehow....LOL

Ugh, I've been having nightmares lately about debt and work... think its pretty much reality for me :)

I have had all the dreams. The re-occurring ones, the wake-up then pick back up where you left off, lucid dreams. I always have very vivid dreams too and I remember them every time. Lately I have nothing but nightmares of me dying. For about the past year. It is starting to make me hate sleeping. I have a sleeping disorder too called "sleep paralysis" look it up. It really sucks.

I have the dreams of a "dream guy" too and when I was younger I thought he was the guy I would find someday and marry since it was always the same guy in my dreams. no dream guy still. (sigh) oh well.

OH! I have had a few about RPattz lately and Twilight!

Wow, some of you have really weird dreams! So funny! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who was mentally scarred by The Witches - thanks for reassuring me I'm not totally crazy!

I keep a notebook by my bed just for the purpose of jotting down dreams as soon as I wake up from them.

I then take the notebook to my therapist once in a while so we can laugh at how crazy I am.
